Laying the Foundations is a self-paced online course designed for early childhood educators. Created by a team of experienced occupational therapists and speech pathologists, the course offers practical, easy-to-apply strategies that can be used in everyday settings.

Through the course, participants will deepen their understanding of how to support children with a wide range of learning needs and abilities. Each module focuses on a key area of development essential for children’s participation and engagement—such as language and communication, sensory processing, behaviour, and play.

The course includes video demonstrations and a downloadable workbook filled with recommended activities to help reinforce your learning.

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for early childhood educators, new graduate occupational therapists and speech pathologists and parents of children with delays or additional learning needs.

What's included?

Each module is an easy to watch bite-sized chunk, and the total course is around 2 hours. The 7 modules are Building a Relationship, Sensory Processing, Joint Attention, Language and Communication, Visuals, Behaviour and The Importance of Play. Demonstrations of strategies and resources are included to help put the information into practice.

Can I use funding to purchase the course?

Yes - if you work with a child who has an NDIS plan and would like an educator/educators to access the course, you can use a child's NDIS funds. This is for self and plan managed participants only.

Laying the Foundations is on the School Readiness Funding Menu so Victorian centres can use their SRF funding to purchase the course.

How long do I have access?

Participants have access to the course for 12 months.

Will I get a course certificate?

Yes! On completion of the course you will receive a certificate to recognise your participation.

Do you offer in-person workshops?

Yes, however bookings are limited. I recommend that you complete the online course before booking an in-person workshop, that way we can spend the time completing case studies, hands-on activities and discussing the modules in more detail.
